Whew

What a great day today.  Was able to get into every session I wanted.  While exhausting, I did manage to get a lot out of the day and was able to get onlune everywhere and blog the sessions.  I’ll need to take a few minutes of reflection sometime tongiht, but right now I’m a little beat.

While I’m thinking of it, I should mention that I found another sushi place last night that was fantastic and totally made up for the garbage they served me at Benehanna (still can’t spell that) the other night.  I traveled north on the subway last night to a section of Atlanta called Buckhorn, which was supposed to be a great soppoing and club district.  Found out you really needed transportation to make that trip meaningful.  However I did stumble upon a place within walking distance from the train station called Ru San’s.  The coolest selection of special rolls I’ve ever seen.  You could get various maki and sushi/sashimi orders by the piece for very little $$.  Fully recommend.  Here’s a look at their place…

That pic actually came out pretty good.  Lately my camera phone pics have been terrible.

I’m off to a Promethian reception at the aquarium.  Hoping this one is less crowded than the other night.

Well…two sessions down and I couldn’t get into eiother one of them.  Both jam packed…apparently you need to arrive to a session a half hour early to even get in.  Thinking participation in Second Life might be a bit more relaxed and I could probably hack my way into a virtual session.  Hey…that’s not a bad idea - maybe more of the good sessions should actually be dome virtually.  There souldn’t be any seating limitations at least.  Something to think about.

Got down to the vendor floor.  Check out this picture of the massive throng of automitons massing their way into the vendor area…

I did get to see some great vendors and will probably make my way down there again for another hour.  I had promised myself that I would not carry anything out with me today, but as I sit here now in the Bloggers Cafe I must admit that beside me sits the WORLD’S LARGEST BAG filled with all kinds of goodies.  Its a sick compusion to gather the crappiest stuff….as long as its free I must need one right?

More later.

NECC 2007 Day 0

Sunday, June 24th, 2007

Arrived in Atlanta for NECC 2007 conference today.  After a frantic race to get the van parked in Philly, we had an uneventful plane ride to Atlanta and a rather exausting romp from the airport via the subway and a rat’s maze of walkways to our hotel.  I managed to work my way over to get registered by 6pm and found downtown to be unimpressive (so far).  In addition to having a bird crap on my shirt - which always casts a bad light on a city to be sure - it had to be hotter than the surface of the sun and I got accosted by no less than eight hundred pan-handlers (is that politically correct) on the way to and from the Georgia World Congress Center.  The walk, while on paper constitutes all of six blocks, is in reality several thousand miles (or so it seemed).  Anyhow, its now 9pm and I’m starting to get hungry - maybe its cooled off>  Think I’ll go round up some dinner.

UPDATE –>  I went to Bennihana (sp?) because I had never been there before, they were right across the street, and they had sushi.  BIG MISTAKE.  I will never go to a Bennihana (sp?) again.  First off, I should have known I was in trouble when I noticed the two sushi chefs were both Mexican (that’s not a slam on mexicans, I would be equally concerned if I went to a Mexican restaurant and I noticed a couple Japanese guys in the kitchen).  Worst sushi I ever had.  Couldn’t even eat it.  Live and learn…live and learn.
